You think silent films are left in the past century? But they are still existing. With the help of director Alexander Kott who tells the stories using no single word. He does that in such a way for the audience to be involved into them. "The perfect movie is a movie without words", - he said. Alexander shoots short films to show that a short film is not a matter of students only or educational films. He assures that short films are also pieces of art and to shoot one there needed even more complex work than that at a full-length movie.

 

All three movies shown, "Scarecrow," "Giant," "Fish", are about lonely children. And even in the titles we feel that the author is not actually a fan of verbal means of communication. They are deeply personal for Alexander. "In the movies there is almost nothing invented. Everything is gotten from my childhood. I remember myself, for example, wanting to look under the Marilyn Monroe's skirt, or wondering how the frozen fish can be alive, - he says. - Such a child's lonelyness, with questions to ask the world, that everyone has. "

 

Movies are personal by the fact that all the photographs used for filming depict his own relatives. And the crew is always the same, which is now almost a family:  studied in VGIK together, work together.

 

Alexander's dream is to shoot a feature film with no words. But so far it seems impossible as no one will finance such a project, because no one else believes in a silent movie. But who knows, maybe people will understand that there are things which are more important than words, and Alexander Kott's dream will one day come true ?
